Rope Chandelier
2021

A special collaboration with Theseus Chan, this in situ installation was created for the atrium of Singapore’s National Design Centre.

An inevitable consequence of a driven culture sustained for too long, society’s fixation on success and the status quo has discouraged individual expression. Ideas that are unfamiliar or not yet popular are often perceived as risky ventures.

Rope Chandelier celebrates the importance of process in navigating the undefined. It embodies the qualities of an unfinished design object, where familiar elements are appropriated and reassembled, allowing viewers to encounter them first as ordinary, yet distinctly altered.

Recontextualised by its setting and occasion, Rope Chandelier cultivates a spirit of experimentation—embracing accidents, missteps, and failures—awakening the verve that emerges when creating within the unknown.
