Temasek Shophouse

The Sunbird Lounge at Temasek Shophouse is conceived as an airy, light-filled extension of its lush courtyard. Centred on dialogue and creative exchange, its glass display, Design and Made in Singapore, showcases drinking vessels by contemporary artists and ceramists based in Singapore, alongside Singaporean artists working abroad. Through a diverse range of artistic practices, the works explore themes of place, memory, transformation, and continuity, reflecting the rich and varied perspectives of Singapore’s creative landscape.

The material palette draws on Singapore’s cultural heritage through a contemporary lens, pairing Peranakan mosaic tiles with patterned carpet in a distinctly Nanyang-inspired sensibility. Braided artworks by Tiffany Loy reinterpret the forms of bougainvillea through woven techniques, while the Today Bench by Studio Juju reimagines the traditional Straits Chinese settee in oak. Together, these elements celebrate modern craftsmanship while remaining deeply rooted in heritage, creating a space that feels both distinctly Singaporean and contemporary.
